Presented by The Instep Research Team, this day course aims to discover and debate the legacy of this important step-dance heritage.
10am - 12pm
Practical workshop: Lakeland step-dance. Open level (not for absolute beginners) Please wear clogs or hard soled shoes.
1pm - 2.30pm
Lecture: Making reference to the original research carried out by Tom & Joan Flett in the 1950s and 60s, this session will explore the social history of Lakeland step-dancing and will debate the claim that these 18th century hornpipe steps, transmitted through generations of itinerant dancing masters, reveal a common legacy that has been central to the development of many other percussive step-dance traditions across Britain, Ireland and the diaspora.

The Instep Research Team has been in existence for over 30 years and includes many of the country’s leading step dancers and researchers. The group has collected and recorded material from many traditional clog and step dancers in Britain (click here) and is keen to liaise with other researchers and interested parties on further step-dance analysis and debate.
